There are many thousands of orphans in Tanzania, over one quarter of females and one in five males aged 13 to 24 have lost one or both parents before they reach 18. Many care centres are under-resourced and under-staffed, meaning that the stimulation and attention the children need cannot always be provided.

Volunteers can choose to work in either an orphanage, care centre or special needs school. You will work alongside local staff and provide the children in your care with love and attention. Your role as a volunteer may include washing and dressing the children, playing games with them and teaching them basic English and numeracy.

Volunteers may choose to work in a special needs school, for children with disabilities such as Down's Syndrome, autism, deafness or blindness. Volunteers play a key role in improving the quality of life for these children and young adults.
