Wildlife Photography Holidays in Africa

Photo holidays

A Wildlife Photography and Conservation Education project giving participants the opportunity to gain an intimate knowledge and feel for the wildlife of a spectacular South African Game Reserve through photography.

There are combo Wildlife Photography and Conservation Education projects which offers participants the opportunity to gain an intimate knowledge and feel for wildlife through photography.  It is based in the Thanda Private Game Reserve, a stunning reserve of 14,000 hectares set on the fringe of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and home to the Big 5 as well as the rare African wild dog and the cheetah. It is an ecologically diverse area where five different eco-systems join and is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.

Course participants will have the opportunity to improve their photography skills, to photograph the area’s outstanding wildlife and to help raise conservation awareness within the local community. Indeed the long-term aim of the project is to raise awareness and help preserve the precious African environment.

The course begins with a comprehensive orientation, followed by an intensive three-day photography course run by a professional photographer, after which a further three weeks will be spent photographing Africa's Big 5 (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard).  Participants will improve photography skills in the intensive course, will learn how to take the perfect wildlife photograph and how to photograph smaller species of flora and fauna and will benefit from the close guidance of the onsite wildlife photographer and guide for the duration of the course.  There will be numerous picture-taking opportunities of the extensive wildlife on regular game drives.

Participants will also become involved in conservation activities, such as visiting neighbouring reserves and assisting researchers in gathering photographic research. Course members will stay in comfortable twin cabins set in the Game Reserve. There is a large communal thatched building with areas in which to dine and relax or watch the animals and there is also a swimming pool.  Accommodation is staffed with cooks and cleaners. There is a viewing deck for watching the animals visit as night falls. Three meals a day are provided.
